While this one didn't give me the usual laugh, it hit home, as we have just (after 7 years) moved our three boys from a Jewish Day School to our local public schools. Even though ours was an unpleasant split, the decision kept us up nights, and our family faces the same issues as yours. It's great that we already have a four-day environmental ed trip (something there was no time for with the dual curriculum at Day School), but will the dates fall on Rosh ha Shana? Will we have anything in common besides our zip code and our sporty kids? Change is always hard, but I have also always found it exciting - an opportunity for growth and change - and isn't that what the New Year is all about!Toshahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10826604990489526277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4180592623449087850.post-17396980477527553572014-09-03T07:57:10.255-07:002014-09-03T07:57:10.255-07:00Lovely piece. Of course, a synagogue community can provide Jewish connections and conversation and continued Jewish activism, and I am sure that your synagogue will benefit from the greater role your family will now play in that Jewish setting. I appreciate also how your observation applies to other changes - on a communal level not just family level. Grieving what we have lost when matched with appreciation for what is now finished is a good recipe for moving on. As a leader in a synagogue facing significant challenges (growing membership and aging facility), I try to keep this in mind. I hope you continue to celebrate all that Day School meant for your family.RebDebhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15334611161519896473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4180592623449087850.post-72814938046156615702014-09-02T05:45:22.417-07:002014-09-02T05:45:22.417-07:00Well said!
